my type report on my ambition...

My future career/ambition is to become a teacher. I would want to become a teacher because when I was young, my teacher always played games and made my lessons very fun and interesting. Some other teachers of mine would beat and slap my classmates especially the naughty ones. I got very inspired by the hitting and slapping of the students by the teachers. Since I have two elder brothers, they would always go for movies where blood and a lot of fighting are involved; I would follow them to watch the movie. With that I also learned how to beat people. Since then, I was a sadist. I always had loved to beat and slap my students. During class, I always plan how to beat the students for even the slightest reasons. Now, I have changed a lot. I realized how pure and good this occupation was. This occupation indirectly helps me to donate to everyone by teaching. I realized that all children are smart, if only they study continuously, they will learn better. In order to study well, they need good teachers, and that is what teachers are for. Now, the main reason for me to want to become a teacher is that I want to help everyone to study well and do well in their respective tests and exams. When my mother was young, she too wanted to become a teacher. She had the proper education; she also went for relief teaching in a school. Unfortunately, she got married. My mother was very quiet all the way trough her growing life. When she got married, she was afraid to ask my father if she could study more as my father looked very scary. My mother told me this when I was very young, so I got inspired and decided to become a teacher. Since both my mother’s as well as my ambition was the same, I decided to become a teacher. Many people said and continuously said that my mother has the teacher look, adding on to that, they also said that I (her daughter) would have the same look and would also become a teacher. Every time I hear that, I get overjoyed and start jumping around.

In ancient Egypt, China, and India, teaching was often the responsibility of priests or prophets, who enjoyed prestige and privileges. The ancient Greeks saw value in educating children, and wealthy Greeks often hired teachers for their households. During the first five centuries AD in the Roman Empire, citizens often had teacher-slaves. By the Middles Ages in Europe, the Roman Catholic Church had taken over the responsibility of teaching, which it allocated to monasteries and specially designed learning centers. Many of these learning centers later evolved into major universities. During the 17th and 18th centuries, interest in children's education intensified. Throughout Europe, knowledge about teaching methods increased, and many new schools were founded. Training other teachers in new educational theories and teaching techniques significantly advanced education. In North America, education was an important part of colonial development. Laws were passed requiring elementary schools in towns with more than 50 families, and many Latin grammar schools were established for secondary education. Many prominent early Americans strongly argued for a national education system as a means of harnessing the young talent of the nation. However, in North America it was not until the 20th century that teachers received a professional status. In the recent career fair our school brought us to, I collected my personal information about the job scope in teaching. The job scope for teaching is first to become a classroom teacher, second, a subject head/level head, third, the Head Of Department (HOD), forth, a vice-principal, fifth, a principal, sixth, cluster superintendent, seventh, deputy director, eighth, director-General Of Department. If you would ask me, I really do not know until which level I would want to go up to. What my family members and I want is to go as far as possible. Where ever I can make it. I shall strive until I retire and get into a good post in the few options I have just under the teaching category.

In teaching to be a teacher, I will have to get a University degree, a polytechnic diploma, 5 o-level passes including English and Mathematics and a B3 for English and Mathematics. I plan to achieve this dream of mine by studying very hard and trying my best to go to NIE (National Institute of Education). I want to give my fullest attention to my teacher during class time and revise and study everyday after school of what we had learnt on that day. I feel that with constant revision and practice anyone would be able go anywhere they like. There are 10 good requirements in teaching. I will only list out 4. Number 1: Good teaching is as much about passion as it is about reason. It's about not only motivating students to learn, but teaching them how to learn, and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful, and memorable. It's about caring for your craft, having a passion for it, and conveying that passion to everyone, most importantly to your students, number 2: Good teaching is about substance and treating students as consumers of knowledge. It's about doing your best to keep on top of your field, reading sources, inside and outside of your areas of expertise, and being at the leading edge as often as possible. But knowledge is not confined to scholarly journals. Good teaching is also about bridging the gap between theory and practice. It's about leaving the ivory tower and immersing oneself in the field, talking to, consulting with, and assisting and practitioners with their communities, number 3: Good teaching is about listening, questioning, being responsive, and remembering that each student and class is different. It's about eliciting responses and developing the oral communication skills of the quiet students. It's about pushing students to excel; at the same time, it's about being human, respecting others, and being professional at all times and number 4: Good teaching is about not always having a fixed agenda and being rigid, but being flexible, fluid, experimenting, and having the confidence to react and adjust to changing circumstances. It's about getting only 10 percent of what you wanted to do in a class do and still feeling good. It's about deviating from the course syllabus or lecture schedule easily when there is more and better learning elsewhere. Good teaching is about the creative balance between being an authoritarian dictator on the one hand and a pushover on the other.

When I become a teacher, I, for the long term career prospects, you would only need 4 prospects. They are growth, recognition, opportunities and well-being. Hope to achieve all 4 prospects. For recognition, I wish to be students’ favorite teacher. The rest I can’t do anything but to have links with one another.

In whole, I wish to become a very good teacher and progress in anything I do. I am not scared if teaching will go down the drain and never exist because teaching will always last until the next decade. Reasons for why I said that teaching will last until the next decade are, because students need teachers and if there are no teachers in Singapore, no one will have a job because there is no one to teach children the basics and there won’t even be teachers of there are no teachers.

In Singapore, there was a career fair organised in a place called Suntec City.We went for this this fair on the 2nd of march 2007,Friday.The main purpose of going there was to decide what our ambition was going to be and also to see the qualifications, responsibilities, job scope and if the job will still be there until the next decade. To be a teacher,my qualification required is to have a university degree, polytechnic diploma with five o-level passes including English and maths and at least a 65-69 for English. My job scope is,first a classroom teacher, subject head or level head, head of department,vice-principal,principal,cluster superintendent, deputy director, director and lastly director-general of education. For the question about if the job will tell last until the next decade,it was a yes.I asked a teacher at the fair why was it so,she said that if there are no teachers, there will be no doctors, lawyers and etc.I got puzzled and asked her why was it so again, she replied 'if there are no teachers, how will the doctors or lawyers study to become a doctor or a lawyer?'.I then realised that i chose a very good ambition and strive to attain it.After going for the event i realised that i gained a lot of knowledge about careers in Singapore.I think the fair was very useful for everyone in Singapore, especially for the students and people finding for jobs.=)
